Regina: Clinical Intern
For people who work at SAVA, much of what they deal with and hear on a daily basis can become an emotional weight upon their shoulders.
For staff members such as Regina, who works as a clinical intern twice a week, their work is rewarding but something that they need to learn, to the best of their ability, to leave at the office.
“I am very mindful of what I do, and take home,” Regina said. “I really enjoy working around empowering people and victims of sexual assault.”
However, despite anyone’s best efforts, Regina admits that the different stories that a person hears as a counselor are not something they can always completely forget, but that doesn’t mean they don't love what they do.
“I’ve known since middle school that I wanted to be a counselor, I enjoy what I do, and even with the emotionally heavy aspect, I wouldn’t trade in my experiences for anything,” Regina said.
Regina, a graduate student from Northern Colorado University who grew up in Erie, Colo., is pursuing a Masters in Clinical Counseling and has worked for SAVA since January. While she does not know what is next after her graduation in December later this year, she is enjoying her work with SAVA and would like to eventually get her PhD and become a licensed counselor.
